Beach Days
We had an extended family get-together at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, California, and the girls had so much fun that we had to hit Newport Beach the next day. Our favorite location is 19th street, which is just south of the pier. The sand is vast, clean, and there are abundant sea shells in low tide. The girls had fun chasing (or, rather, being chased by) the waves. The day at the beach was a great break from the heat wave. After the beach we went back to the hotel and cleaned-up and then we hit Mother's Market in Irvine for a nice meal. Vicki enjoyed potato taquitos with pineapple salsa, with black beans and rice, with berry lemonade. Art ordered his usual, the tofu mushroom melt, wheatgrass and orange juice which I blogged about previously (click here). The girls shared whole grain pancakes with pure maple syrup. There was more licking of the syrup than eating of the pancakes.

Aww...that are is beautiful. My aunt used to take me to Dana Point when I'd visit her (they live in Mission Viejo).
The beach would be so much fun!

I didn't realize it's been so long since my last comment! Goodness...sorry about that! These pictures are wonderful as always! The food is making my mouth water! Congrats on the Moosewood Book...they're fun aren't they? The fruit veggies look great. I need to give Kohlrabi another shot! I'm hungry for Kale for some reason...yay.
Hope to see you in the forums soon!
Vicki, looks like the girls are having lotsa fun! This is not food related, but I love Abi's little sun suit! The kids I nanny for have midlength "swim pants" and long-sleeved "swim shirts." It's SO nice, not having to worry quite so much about sunscreen, (except faces and necks, of course,) and they never seem to complain about being hot. Everyone wins! I swear, that sun is hotter than when I was a kid . . . !! I've already blown through an entire bottle of sunblock this summer myself -- why don't they make swim shirts and pants for grown-ups??
:o) FUN! Lovin' it!!
What a great photo. Thanks for the fun updates!
wait you're here still??
for how long. while you're here you should go to Au Lac.. have you been there before? it's great!

Dang, that is a lot of good looking food in your previous post. If it doesn't rain this weekend, maybe I will get to hit the farmer's market here.
That rum cake looks amazing and is actually the recipe that made me buy VwaV. Ironically, I've made quite a few recipes from it, but not that cake yet!
