Glazed Citrus Scones & Daisies

I was at the Post Punk Kitchen and read in one of the forums how The Urban Vegan made VwaV's Glazed Orange Scones with lemons instead. I love lemon, & that sounded amazing so I had to give it a try. I went to the fridge and only had a 1/2 lemon and 3 limes. My wheels were already in motion and decided to make do with what I had, so I made mine citrus. (this photo was taken the next day after a store run) The scones keep really well in the fridge and allows for the glaze to harden, though I admit to eating 2 hot & sticky ones right off the press. The scones are surprisingly easy to make and oh so delicious. My new favorite ingredient is zest!

I had to include some flowers from the garden since they echo the yellow & green of the lemon & lime. The colors of summer!

Four girlfriends & I are throwing a baby shower for a dear friend. For the menu, we'll each bring a bread item along with a fruit or veggie item. I'm seriously considering these scones, only with the intended orange flavor. Any menu ideas for me? A bread item? A fruit or veggie dish?

Those scones would be a big hit at a shower - they look light and delicious! Love the flower pic, too!

Those look great! Those scones would be really good with a baby green salad with mandarin oranges, red onions, toasted hazelnuts and a citrus vinaigrette.. oh.. you could put some strawberries in it too.

I was looking at that scone recipe yesterday. Glad to know you liked them...I might have to try them.

I am obcessed with berries lately. I think you should bring anything with berries to your shower....shortcake with berries, muffins with berries, chocolate covered berries!!

Maybe you could make a dip with some veggies. I love to eat dips in the summer.

Vicki, I adore citrus zest in baked goods too. Adds such vibrant flavor without extra liquid. The scones look straight from a bakery - yummy!

Your daisies are absolutely sunshiny beautiful!!

Great ideas by the above ladies on what to bring to the shower! Lucky friend of yours having you 'cater' some of it!!

I'm not big on scones... i'm kind of a muffiny person, but maybe i just haven't tried YOURS...

And also i adore the flowers. So summery!!

Daisies are looking great!

I'm about to go to a pot luck and I'm bringing some sandwiches. They'll be on mini bagettes (sp?) with hummus, cucumber, avocado, fresh basil and maybe some balsamic vinegar (inspired by my trip to SF). ooh another cute thing is cream cheeze and cucumber sandwiches (like at a tea party hehe)
oh man I'm on a sandwich ROLL (pun intended for SURE haha)

Vicki, When I first read that recipe, I thought they sounded really good. Nice to see they look (and taste) good too. Like Megan, I'm berry obcessed lately too. The season is so short, and I eat as much as I can. Here's an idea for the shower that is soooo simple, but so good. Take some mixed baby greens (mesclun it's sometimes called) toss them in a bowl with some hardier green lettuce such as romaine. Throw in a few handfuls of sliced strawberries and toss the whole thing with a raspberry viniagrette. Voila! For some added texture and appeal, I like to throw in some toasted almonds or sunflower seeds - whatever you like.

I just had a thought....since Dreena's got us all hooked on hemp seed nuts, I bet those would be good sprinkled over top the salad I mentioned above.

Yum, berries and flowers anything I'm sure will go great for the shower. We have finally been harvesting raspberries. Only a couple of handfuls a day and they get eaten fresh, but soon we'll have enough for a smoothie or a fruity scone or muffin.

Blueberry bread with lemon zest, and a berry mix--mix sliced strawberries and blueberries with mint or lemon verbena (if you haven't ever tried lemon verbena you're in for a treat! it is so aromatic and makes fruit taste like something really special!).
