Slow Stuffed Grape Leaves

Fresh from the Vegetarian Slow Cooker (p. 20) I followed the recipe to a "TTT" - & tripled it!

This is the group of lucky dolmas going to the party. I sharpied a post-it for the dish that said "Vegan Stuffed Grape Leaves". I was little shy -- wondering if the crowd would go for the crackers + dip and cookies on the buffet --- or, turn a 180* and go for these very green & healthy morsels....



Here's 3 batches of dolmas (about 50) -- stuffed, wrapped, & ready for the Slow Cooker. It took a while to prepare, but well worth it. They vanished quickly at the party, and I felt a sense of victory for Veganism. It wasn't that people were starving, either, because there was plenty of left-overs of the junk food. They liked them. They really, really liked them!
These were the perfect party pleasing appetizer.

I love the grape leaves idea for a party!!!! I would love to do that for the holidays. I appreciate the link to the cookbook! I will have to pick up a copy of that!!

I think you should feel victorious for your creation!!! It's nice to see people walk past the junk and love your vegan food!! :)

I made grape leaves a while back and it would have been nice to use a slow cooker! They look wonderful and *are* great finger foods for a party.

I voted too (of course), but your sticker is way better.

I love dolmas. Marty was never a fan though so I only eat them when we go out. So glad to hear they were a huge hit! Maybe I'll make up a batch the next time I go to a party.

I've never had grape leaves.. they look good but.. I have no idea what they taste like lol and I cant see what's in them. Sounds like they were good though :-)

Wow - your dolmas look great!
I have that cookbook, too and have a few questions for you -
1 - What size slow cooker do you have?
2 - Was one jar of grape leaves enough for the triple batch?
3 - What did YOU think about them? I have made a few misses from that book but overall I enjoy it.

As for voting, the # of Repubs stayed the same here in Florida, even the Governor (boo-hoo), but I am very excited for our country about the overall results!
Yay for change!

hi crystal: i was never a dolmas fan in the past, but these were tender and yummy.

hi tania: these were stuffed with basmatti rice, pine nuts, onion, parsley, & some seasonings. try them out at a Greek restaurant.

hi caroline:
mine is a 6 quart crockpot.
one jar of grapeleaves was more than enough for 3 batches -- you could probably get 4 batches from a 16 oz. jar. i really liked the dolmas. the crockpot made the grape leaves more tender & moist than usual -- the fillin was basic & flavorful.
this was my second recipe from the cookbook -- pleased with each. which ones were misses for you?

I only tried a dolma once- but it wasn't authentic at all (and it was super oily). I've always wanted to try them again, because I think that I would like the real authentic ones. Either way I'm always happy for a victory in veganism.

I voted too- if only it was a victory for me in the political sphere. It's seriously embarassing to have Schwartzennager as a governor. Oh well.
