Beach House
Art found it on Craig's List, and what a find it was! We love this beach house. It is a beautiful 2 block walk to the beach, and a 4 block walk to a small, charming community just north of Seaside.
As you can see, there is no shower, and that is really the only draw back that we could find. Not a problem for us. And what a nice, big, comfortable tub it is. Each night I took a candlelit bath and read. It was so relaxing. The whole place is decorated in the "shabby chic" style and was so adorable! There was a bird bath to hold extra toilet paper -- isn't that a cute idea?
I took this photo of the living room standing in the front porch. Through the doorway, you can see the kitchen with the refrigerator. The cottage even had a guitar, and so Art picked it up to play some of our favorite songs. He plays a mean "Sunshine On My Shoulders" by John Denver. Olivia calls it "Slow Sunshine" -- not to be confused with "Fast Sunshine" by the Beatles, aka "Good Day Sunshine".
Here is the modest kitchen, which is really quite surprising given who used to cook here! I'll tell later, but this house is a designated landmark because of a famous chef who grew up and spent summers here! To imagine all the cooking that took place here...
Here are the three girls checking out our new digs for the week.
Here is another view of the dining room -- my favorite room of the house. It is so bright and cheery and looks out to the pretty landscaped yard.

craigslist to the rescue!
And it looks like an absolutely charming place... good for you!
This is beautiful and I want to now look into renting vacation houses. Also, I'm now able to view *some* of your text and I am pretending to be on vacation with you all!
Super cool about the guitar (unless it was crap). This looks like quite a place!
hi cinda: you make me laugh so hard! i *heart* claw footed tubs -- lucky you growing up with one. read on, you'll find out who the mystery chef is....
hi kleopatra: are you a craig's list fan? we've had great luck with it several times.
hi leslie: i highly recommend renting a vacation home -- forget hotels! wonder what's up with the text problem?! it was a piece of crap guitar -- one song worth.
I have used craigslist many times. When the beau took me up to incredible Mendocino this past March for my 40th (yikes!) we stayed at an unbelievable bed and breakfast (they whipped me up two different vegan breakfasts both days we were there!) we met this super cool couple visiting from Germany and Sweden and they told me they found the place on craigslist!
I had heard of craigslist at that time but had never checked it out. Since then, I've been to craigslist a few times, for varying reasons. Now that I see you found THIS AWESOME place there, for sure I'll look to craigslist when planning a vacation...
A beautiful beach house... that itself is a destination.
That fast and slow Sunshine distinction is soo cute!! What a character!
hi kai: you're right...a destination in itself. nice to get away for a bit.
